Student Director (SD)/Recruitment & Retention Organizing Committee (RROC) Representative

The Student Director will have oversight over BRIDGE’s programs and coordinators. They will work towards supporting and helping build cohesion and unity within BRIDGE, the SRRC, and the greater Filipino/Filipina/Filipinx and Pilipinx/Pilipinx-American community at UC Davis.

The Student Director will be responsible for:

  • Providing holistic support, supervision & programmatic guidance to all BRIDGE coordinators and general members (i.e. Host weekly 1 on 1 meetings with BRIDGE program coordinators).

  • Facilitating weekly BRIDGE staff meetings.

  • Reviewing all BRIDGE proposals to ensure the accuracy of funding requests and alignment with SRRC values.

  • Providing continuous, ongoing evaluation of all BRIDGE initiatives.

  • Developing and implementing quarterly staff retreats, including a transition retreat.

  • Serving on the UC Davis Fil Am Presidents Board (FORCE- Filipinxs Organizing Retention & Community Empowerment).

  • Assisting in the planning and organization of various Fil Am wide community events hosted by FORCE board (e.g. Fil Am Leadership Retreat, Fil Am Joint Meetings, Fil Am Leadership Retreat, etc...).

  • Serving on the Asian Pacific Islander Retention Committee (APIRC).

  • Assisting with the Filipinx Graduation Ceremony process as needed.

  • Providing guidance for the Fil Am Pages and supporting the Editorial Intern as needed.

  • Attending Student Director meetings to discuss various SRRC topics.

  • Attending weekly meetings with SRRC Career Staff.

The Recruitment and Retention Organizing Committee (RROC) is the decision-making body of the Student Recruitment & Retention Center. As a RROC representative, the Student Director forms part of this governing board and holds voting privileges. RROC has oversight for all SRRC finances, SRRC operations and recruitment/retention initiatives. Furthermore, RROC provides advocacy surrounding issues of educational equity.

A RROC representative will be responsible for:

  • Promoting transparency between RROC and the SRRC staff.

  • Attend weekly RROC Board meetings to represent the Pilipinx-American Community.

  • Provide the Pilipinx-American Community (FORCE Board) with updates from the RROC Board.

  • Allocating funding to support SRRC initiatives.

  • Planning monthly staff in-service.

  • Maintaining and promoting a welcoming, inclusive environment for the overall SRRC.

  • Creating awareness to the general public of issues pertaining to your respective community.

As a RROC representative, you will have accompanying responsibilities for one of the follow specific RROC roles:

  • Board Chair

  • Campus Community Advocacy Chair

  • Policy Chair

  • Financial Chair

  • Secretary

  • Recruitment Chair

  • Retention Chair

Administrative Coordinator

The Administrative Coordinator supports and helps build cohesion and unity within the volunteers, interns, BRIDGE coordinators, SRRC, and the greater Pilipinx/Pilipinx-American community at UC Davis.

Responsible for:

  • Program and event logistics such as room reservations.

  • Supporting purchase requests and submission of final expense reports.

  • Sending weekly newsletters to community members.

  • Overseeing and updating all BRIDGE social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Instagram) to promote events, generate publicity, and maintain the program's consistent presence over all forums.

  • Organizing and implementing the Volunteer/Internship Program.

  • Serving as a Vice President within the Fil Am organizations.

  • Co-coordinating the Filipinx American Thanksgiving Dinner with the other Fil Am Vice Presidents, and any other major quarterly events initiated.

  • Developing & coordinating Community Empowerment programs for the Pilipinx-American community.

  • Serving as a core member of the Administrative Committee.

Recruitment Positions

Outreach Coordinator

The Outreach Coordinator will develop a culturally relevant, captivating and informative outreach program for middle school and/or high school students that will empower, educate, and promote a college-going culture.

The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with the Community Advisor for Recruitment and the BRIDGE Student Director to:

    • Establish partnerships with high school(s) that have high population of Pilipinx/Pilipinx-American students (consider schools where students are at-risk and underserved)

    • Seek support and resources

  • Creating and sustaining positive working relationships with professional staff at respective high school sites (e.g. teachers, counselors, principal, secretary)

  • Conducting weekly/bi-weekly/monthly middle school and/or high school outreach visits to 1-2 schools with a large population of Filipino/Filipina/Filipinx and Pilipinx/Pilipinx American students

  • Establishing agreements with high schools over the summer with assistance from a Community Advisor (MOU: Memorandum of Understanding)

  • Creating a well-developed syllabus for each quarter that will engage students in the SRRC's Holistic Initiatives to include cultural programming, advocacy, mentorship, and resources

  • Providing guidance to students, ranging from middle schoolers to freshmen to seniors, based on their individual needs

  • Assisting high school seniors with navigating the college application process and helping students make necessary revisions to their Personal Statements

  • Co-coordinating the annual SRRC Recruitment event, Aggie Senior Weekend Trip, with fellow Recruitment coordinators

  • Serving as the liaison for middle school and/or high school outreach participants to visit UC Davis

  • Assisting the Community Youth Development Coordinator with the annual Pilipinx Youth Conference (PYC), as needed

  • Co-coordinating, as needed, the annual Pilipinx Youth Conference (PYC) alongside the Community Youth Development Coordinator

  • Serving as a core member of the SRRC's Recruitment Committee

Community Youth Development Coordinator

The Community Youth Development Coordinator will develop culturally relevant, captivating and informative recruitment programs for high school and middle school students that will empower, educate, and promote a college-going culture.

The Community Youth Development Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with the Community Advisor for Recruitment and the BRIDGE Student Director to:

    • Establish guidelines for on-campus events

    • Seek support and resources

  • Creating and sustaining contacts with professional staff at various relevant high school and middle school sites (e.g. teachers, counselors, program coordinators)

  • Providing guidance to high school and middle school students

  • Serving as the liaison for high school and middle school outreach participants to visit UC Davis

  • Coordinating on-campus events for school groups or programs with a large population of Filipino/Filipina/Filipinx and Pilipinx/Pilipinx American students

  • Creating a comprehensive agenda per on-campus event that will engage students in both the SRRC's Holistic Initiatives and resources that promote higher education

  • Coordinating the annual Pilipinx Youth Conference (PYC) with assistance from the Outreach Coordinator

  • Co-coordinating the annual SRRC Recruitment event, Aggie Senior Weekend Trip, with fellow Recruitment coordinators

  • Serving as a core member of the SRRC's Recruitment Committee

Retention Positions

Identity Development Coordinator

The Identity Development Coordinator aims to foster a holistic sense of Pilipinx/Pilipinx-American identity by discussing issues and commonly-misinterpreted/misunderstood topics.

The Identity Development Coordinator will be responsible for developing and coordinating retention programs and strategies in the following areas:

  • Gender & Sexuality: Supporting the Pilipinx queer community; facilitating spaces which are inclusive and welcoming of all identities and encouraging the understanding of multiple, intersectional identities.

  • Community Development: Co-coordinating large-scale community events to promote a sense of belonging and/or inform community about issues facing the Pilipinx/Pilipinx-American community.

  • Health & Wellness: Promoting the well-being of both physical and mental health, sharing health & wellness resources.

  • Cultural Identity: Defining and/or deconstructing what Pilipinx/Pilipinx-American means, specifically at UC Davis, and focusing on intersectional identities as related to issues of educational equity; organizing exposure trips (e.g. museums, rallies, conferences, food vendors, etc); and co-coordinating events and other programming for Filipinx American History Month with the other Cultural Chairs of the Fil Am organizations.

Additionally, the Identity Development Coordinator will:

  • Co-act as a Fil Am Cultural Chair. Duties will involve working with and collaborating with the other Cultural Chairs from the organizations within the Fil Am at UC Davis.

  • Maintain relationships with other resources on campus such as Asian American Studies, CCC API coordinators, APATH, LGBTQIARC, WRRC, EOP, the API Retention Committee, etc.

  • Work closely with the BRIDGE Student Director and Community Advisor for Retention to develop programs (e.g. creating budgets and proposals for all events/programming).

  • Stay informed and connected with the Pilipinx-American community at large to guide programming efforts.

  • Serve as a core member of the SRRC's Retention Committee.

Student Achievement Coordinator

The Student Academic Achievement Coordinator provides resources to ensure the holistic achievement of Pilipinx/Pilipinx American students at UC Davis. This support comes in many forms and areas, such as the transition from high school to college, academic preparation and readiness, leadership opportunities, building professionalism to empower students to graduate from UC Davis and to successfully build a career post-graduation.

The Student Academic Achievement Coordinator will provide resources and develop and coordinate retention programs and strategies in the following areas:

  • Academic Excellence: Organizing Fil Am Joint Study Halls along with other Fil Am Academic Chairs (at least 1 per quarter); Working closely with the Asian Pacific Islander Retention Committee, Asian Pacific American Theme House, and the Asian American Studies (ASA) department to identify & address any issues that may be impacting the academic success of Fil Am identified students.

  • Leadership Development: Coordinating and sharing leadership opportunities and resources with the community.

  • Mentorship: Coordinating BRIDGE’s Mentorship Program, MAHAL: Mentors Always Helping and Leading.

  • Life After College Success: Co-hosting a Pathway to Graduate School workshop with the SRRC’s GAAAP, BRIDGE alumni and/or Fil Am graduate/professional school students; Serving as a resource for peers by hosting mock interviews; organizing & collaborating with the Fil-Grad Coordinators to host a workshop for graduating seniors.

Additionally, the Identity Development Coordinator will:

  • Co-act as a Fil Am Academics Chair. Duties will involve working with the other Academic Chairs from the organizations within the Fil Am at UC Davis to co-coordinate events including but not limited to the quarterly Fil Am Joint Study Hall. Attend 1-2 Fil Am Academic Chair meetings per quarter.

  • Maintain relationships with other resources on campus such as Asian American Studies, CCC API coordinators, APATH, LGBTQIARC, WRRC, EOP, the API Retention Committee, etc.

  • Work closely with the BRIDGE Student Director and Community Advisor for Retention to develop programs (e.g. creating budgets and proposals for all events/programming).

  • Stay informed and connected with the Pilipinx-American community at large to guide programming efforts.

  • Serve as a core member of the SRRC's Retention Committee.

 All staff will be responsible for:

  • Attending SRRC Spring Class and SRRC Summer Formation.

  • Attending quarterly BRIDGE Staff Retreats.

  • Attending weekly staff meeting, weekly or bi-weekly one-on-ones with your Student Director, SRRC In-Service, and any meeting depending on your position.

  • Creating a budget and proposal for each activity/event or strategy.

  • Ensuring that activities/events are catered to serve Filipino/a/x and Pilipinx/Pilipinx-Americans.

  • Evaluating respective programs on a consistent basis and gathering feedback from participants.

  • Representing BRIDGE and the SRRC professionally, as well as being able to articulate the mission and goals of both BRIDGE and the SRRC to staff, faculty, students and other audiences.

  • Advocating and upholding the values of BRIDGE and the SRRC throughout all programs.

  • Coordinating intern and volunteer projects to provide them with valuable experience.

  • Maintaining a 2.5 cumulative GPA and full-time student status.

  • Working with students to holistically address their needs.

  • Supporting major community events.

  • Being active in the greater Fil Am community to ensure that the needs of the target population are being addressed.

  • Maintaining consistent communication/correspondence with partners/collaborators as it pertains to programming efforts.

  • Attending the transitional Filipinx American Leadership Retreat hosted during Memorial Day Weekend.

  • Assisting BRIDGE Staff as needed.
