AIRR Positions

Student Director (SD)/Recruitment & Retention Organizing Committee (RROC) Representative

The Student Director will have oversight of AIRR’s programs and coordinators. They will work towards supporting and helping build cohesion and unity within AIRR, the SRRC, and the greater Native American/American Indian/Indigenous student community at UC Davis.

The Student Director will be responsible for:

  • Providing holistic support, supervision & programmatic guidance to all AIRR coordinators and general members (i.e. Host weekly 1 on 1 meetings with AIRR program coordinators).

  • Facilitating weekly AIRR staff meetings.

  • Reviewing all AIRR proposals to ensure the accuracy of funding requests and alignment with SRRC values.

  • Providing continuous, ongoing evaluation of all AIRR initiatives.

  • Developing and implementing quarterly staff retreats, including a transition retreat.

  • Serving as a core member of the Powwow planning committee and/or Native Workgroup.

  • Assisting in the planning and organization of various AIRR events/activities and/or Native community events.

  • Attending Student Director meetings to discuss various SRRC topics.

  • Attending weekly meetings with SRRC Career Staff.

The Recruitment and Retention Organizing Committee (RROC) is the decision-making body of the Student Recruitment & Retention Center. As a RROC representative, the Student Director forms part of this governing board and holds voting privileges. RROC has oversight for all SRRC finances, SRRC operations and recruitment/retention initiatives. Furthermore, RROC provides advocacy surrounding issues of educational equity.

A RROC representative will be responsible for:

  • Promoting transparency between RROC and the SRRC staff.

  • Attending weekly RROC Board meetings to represent the American Indian/Native American/Indigenous.

  • Providing the American Indian/Native American/Indigenous community with updates from the RROC Board.

  • Allocating funding to support SRRC Initiatives.

  • Planning monthly staff in-service.

  • Maintaining and promoting a welcoming, inclusive environment for the overall SRRC.

  • Creating awareness to the general public of issues pertaining to your respective community.

AS a RROC representative, you will have accompanying responsibilities for one of the follow specific RROC roles:

  • Board Chair

  • Campus Community Advocacy Chair

  • Policy Chair

  • Financial Chair

  • Secretary

  • Recruitment Chair

  • Retention Chair

Administrative Coordinator

The Administrative Coordinator supports and helps build cohesion and unity within the community program through: facilitating the Volunteer and Internship Program, handling administrative tasks, and supporting other coordinators.

The Administrative Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Program and event logistics such as room reservations
  • Supporting purchase requests and submission of final expense reports
  • Sending weekly newsletters to community members
  • Overseeing and updating all AIRR social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Instagram) to promote events, generate publicity, and maintain the program’s consistent presence over all forums
  • Organizing and implementing the Volunteer/Internship Program
  • Supporting AIRR staff as needed with their programming
  • Developing & coordinating Community Empowerment programs/events for the American Indian
  • Serving as a core member of the Administrative Committee

Recruitment Positions

Outreach Coordinator

The AIRR Outreach Coordinator is responsible for creating and/or maintaining existing partnerships with: nearby community centers that serve the American Indian/Native American/ Indigenous population, afterschool programs, and/or reservations/rancherias. They will provide outreach services on a weekly basis, including participating in tribal college motivation days that take place in the community. They will act as a mentor to the students they work with, providing tutoring services, hosting workshops, and promoting a college going culture.

The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with the Community Advisor for Recruitment and the AIRR Student Director to:

    • Establish partnerships with school(s), programs, reservations, or rancherias that have high population of American Indian/Native American/Indigenous students (consider schools where students are at-risk and underserved).

    • Seek support and resources.

  • Creating and sustaining positive working relationships with professional staff and elders at respective sites (e.g. teachers, counselors, principal, secretary).

  • Conducting weekly or regular outreach visits to 1-2 schools with a large population of American Indian/Native American/Indigenous students.

  • Create a well developed syllabus for each quarter that will engage students in the SRRC’s Holistic Initiatives to include cultural programming, advocacy, mentorship, and resources.

  • Providing guidance for students ranging from elementary school to high school seniors, based on their individual needs.

  • Assisting high school seniors with navigating the college application process and helping students make necessary revisions to their Personal Statements.

  • Serving as the liaison for high school outreach participants to visit UC Davis.

  • Co-Coordinating the annual SRRC Recruitment event, Aggie Senior Weekend Trip, with fellow Recruitment coordinators.

  • Serving as a core member of the SRRC’s Recruitment Committee.

  • Develop & implement the annual Native Youth Empowerment Conference

Requirement:

  • MUST have a valid driver’s license.

Retention Positions

Identity Development Coordinator

The Identity Development Coordinator aims to empower the American Indian/Native Community by addressing issues centered around the following four SRRC Holistic Initiatives: Gender & Sexuality, Community Development, Health & Wellness and Cultural Identity. 

The Identity Development Coordinator will be responsible for developing and coordinating retention programs and strategies in the following areas:

  • Gender & Sexuality: Supporting the two-spirit and/or queer community, facilitating spaces that are inclusive and welcoming of all identities and which encourage the understanding of multiple, intersectional identities

  • Community Development: Coordinating community events to promote a sense of belonging and/or inform community about issues facing the American Indian/Native American/Indigenous community

  • Health & Wellness: Promoting the wellbeing of both physical and mental health, sharing health & wellness resources

  • Cultural Identity: Defining and/or deconstructing what Native-ness means at UC Davis, and focusing on intersectional identities within the American Indian/Native American/Indigenous community as related to issues of educational equity

Additionally, the Identity Development Coordinator will:

  • Work closely with AIRR Student Director and Community Advisor for Retention to develop programs (ex. Creating budgets and proposals for all events/programming)

  • Maintain relationships with other resources on campus such as Native American Studies, CCC Native Community Coordinator and PowWow Coordinators, the Native American Theme House, LGBTQIARC, WRRC, EOP, the Native American Retention Initiative, etc.

  • Stay informed and connected with the American Indian/Native American/Indigenous community at large to guide programming efforts

  • Serve as a core member of the SRRC’s Retention Committee

  • Support all efforts of AIRR, including the planning and coordination of the Native Youth Empowerment Conference

Student Academic Achievement Coordinator

The Student Achievement Coordinator aims to empower the American Indian/Native Community by providing resources and information to ensure the holistic achievement of Native students at UC Davis. This support comes in many forms and areas, such as the transition from high school to college, academic preparation and readiness, leadership opportunities, building professionalism to empower students to graduate from UC Davis and to successfully build a career post-graduation.

The Student Achievement Coordinator will be responsible for developing and coordinating retention programs and strategies in the following areas:

  • Academic Excellence: Working closely with the Native Nest, the Native American Studies Department, EOP, and other partners to address any issues that may be impacting the academic success of students within the community

  • Leadership Development: Coordinating the annual Native Leadership Retreat, sharing leadership opportunities and resources with the community

  • Mentorship: Facilitating spaces for 1st year students to get to know continuing students in the community

  • Life After College Success: Co-Hosting a Pathway to Graduate School workshop in partnership with SRRC’s GAAAP, AIRR Alumni, and/or American Indian/Native American/Indigenous graduate/professional school students; organizing a workshop series for graduating seniors

Additionally, the Student Academic Achievement Coordinator will:

All staff will be responsible for:

  • Attending SRRC Spring Class and SRRC Summer Formation.

  • Attending quarterly AIRR Staff Retreats.

  • Attending weekly staff meetings, weekly or bi-weekly one-on-ones with your student director AND the Community Advisor, SRRC In Service, and any meeting depending on your position.

  • Creating a budget and proposal for each activity/event or strategy.

  • Ensuring that activities/events are catered to serve the American Indian/Native American/Indigenous community.

  • Evaluating respective programs on a regular basis and gathering feedback from participants.

  • Representing AIRR and the SRRC professionally, as well as being able to articulate the mission and goals of both AIRR and the SRRC to staff, faculty, students, and other audiences.

  • Advocating and upholding the values of AIRR and the SRRC throughout all programs.

  • Coordinating intern and volunteer projects in order to provide them with a valuable experience.

  • Maintaining a 2.5 cumulative GPA and full-time student status.

  • Supporting major community events such as the annual Native Leadership Retreat, Native American Cultural Days, Native Youth Empowerment Conference, Powwow, etc.

  • Being active in the greater American Indian/Native American/Indigenous community to ensure that the needs of the target population are being addressed.

  • Maintaining consistent communication/correspondence with partners/collaborators as it pertains to programming efforts.

  • Logistical task management such as scheduling meetings, reserving campus venues and vehicles, and keeping track of your respective budget throughout the year.

  • Submitting Purchase Requests and reconciling expenses.

  • Assisting AIRR Staff as needed: AIRR staff works closely with each other, so the ability to works as a team player and support your fellow staff is important.
